Spotlight on Schools: Lincoln Square - your kids' education depends ...

Moving to Chicago? You?re in luck because this is one world city that has top notch schools in the city, and you don?t need to live in the suburbs or pay private tuition to educate your kids. With increasing problems of drugs, crime, and malaise among suburban youngsters, many are pleased to find great schools in Lincoln Square, on Chicago?s acclaimed North Side.

Thomas J. Waters, a fine and performing magnet arts school[i] is a k-5 (and has a middle school, Rivers Edge (6-8) on the same campus), one block from the Chicago River North Branch, in the Ravenswood Gardens neighborhood in Lincoln Square. The Waters School Vision ?is that we are a fine and performing arts student centered environment which stresses authentic, collaborative and reflective experiences that encourage all children to reach their fullest potential.? An integrated curriculum at Waters incorporates fine arts, technology, and environmental studies, to engage students using holistic instruction.[ii]

Rivers Edge Middle School hosts the 6-8th grade program at Waters Elementary. In addition to the Chicago Public Schools standard curriculum, (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Social Studies) Waters students receive additional instruction in Gym, Ecology, Art & Technology, Visual Art, Music, Drama, and Technology. The intimate class sizes at Rivers Edge help students and teachers build educational relationships. The progressive education program at Rivers Edge well-prepares students for high school.

Lane Tech College Prep High School is a college preparatory public school at Western/Addison, just a short bus ride from the heart of Lincoln Square. Lane is a selective-enrollment-based school that produced more Ph.D. holders than any other high school in the country.[iii] Chicago?s public magnet high schools are strong institutions of prepatory learning[iv] and look great on college applications.

You don?t have to live in the suburbs to send your kids to the best schools when you land in Lincoln Square. This traditional Western European neighborhood in Chicago?s North Side is the home of many fine schools, teaming up to promote your family and children?s? success.
