Take the AARP Online Driving Course for $5 and Save Up to 15% on Your Car Insurance

Take the AARP Online Driving Course for $5 and Save Up to 15% on Your Car InsuranceOnline driver safety courses can save you 5-15% on your auto insurance or take points off your record. For the month of February, AARP is offering its course for $5, typically $20 for non-members and $16 for members. With the insurance discounts, the course can more than pay for itself.

The discounts vary depending on where you live. In NY, it's a mandated 10% off for three years and 4 points off your record. In other states, you have to be a certain age and the number of hours required also vary. It's best to check with your insurance provider to see if you would get a discount, but the AARP site has a state listing with information about the insurance discounts (thanks chiieddy!).

The coupon for the class seems to work whether you're a member or not: BHM2013. When you sign up, you'll be prompted not just to create a login, but also set up a voice authentication and then you can start taking the class.

You have 60 days to complete the 4- to 8-hour course (spread out as you wish), but this $5 offer, in honor of Black History Month, will likely expire on Feb. 28. For comparison's sake, many other online driving courses cost around $35.
