Seattle locks up MF Rosales to multi-year deal

updated 10:18 p.m. ET Dec. 13, 2011

TUKWILA, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders FC and midfielder Mauro Rosales have agreed on a long awaited multi-year extension after the Argentinian's breakout debut season in Seattle.

The club announced the extension on Tuesday night, but did not release terms of the new deal.

Rosales was an overwhelming choice as Major League Soccer's newcomer of the year in 2011 and finished third in the league with a franchise-record 13 assists in 26 league games. Rosales also added five goals.

Rosales credited his agent Dario Sala and Sounders management for locking up his future with the club. Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer said the team was always confident of getting a deal done.

Rosales, 30, previously played for Buenos Aries power River Plate before signing with Seattle.
